Moda de la Mode Interviews: Anouska Woods

Having designed a set of bracelets for Victoria Beckham, launched both a men's and women's collection for ASOS and created her own jewellery line from scratch, Anouska Woods has become one of the most coveted jewellery designers in London. You just have to log on to Twitter to see the buzz surrounding the Anouska London brand. Everyone is talking about her brightly coloured, fun, designs which adorn the arms of celebrities and the finest of London society alike. That is not to say her designs are going to break the bank...her exquisite creations range from £18-140 making them the perfect gift for someone or even a special treat for yourself.

Anouska has always had an interest in fashion and her creative background enabled her to dabble in interior design, fashion and fine art. From her years of study and her wide knowledge that spans a variety of different areas, Anouska was able to place all her creative history into one field and from there Anouska London Jewellery was born. The idea of wanting to create unique pieces at an affordable price whilst not compromising on quality is at the core of all the work Anouska does for her label. Swarovski crystals, onyx, sterling silver and vermeil are just a few of the materials used by Anouska to create her designs. The rich, vibrant colours of these materials combine together forming a strong link with Anouska's passion for the Middle East and the beliefs, traditions and superstitions that make up the ancient culture of the region. Pendants featuring traditional middle eastern religious symbols adorn many of the bracelets Anouska creates offering the wearer happiness, luck, health and good fortune, thus extending the influence further.

Moda de la Mode catches up with the designer herself to discuss London, young jewellery designers and the future of Anouska London Jewellery

Do you think your time spent in London has shaped your personal style? Your jewellery designs are very Middle Eastern, is this also reflected in the clothes you wear?
I was born in London but have spent a lot of time in the Middle East and Asia. The brand is influenced by the catwalk and current trends; this then filters through to my own personal style. I only design pieces I would love to wear myself.

Where is your favourite place in London to go to?
I love London as a whole and its energy and vibe. For a night out I particularly enjoy Home House, The Langham Hilton, The Sanderson and Nobu is a favourite of mine for food.

Describe a typical day for you?
As I am a mother of two boys, the majority of the morning is spent organising their school day. Once I arrive at my studio I research the latest catwalk trends to take inspiration for the collection. Most of my designs are hand drawn so I will then have to put these down on paper before setting the designs into production. The remainder of the day is usually spent dealing with any press enquiries and arranging photo shoots for the collection.

What are your plans for the future?
To increase the collection and to watch the brand grow, eventually expanding the brand internationally.

What advice would you give to someone trying to set up their own jewellery design company?
I would advise them that they will need to put in a lot of hard work! Staying on the ball with regards to what is current in their particular field of inspiration is also important.
